AVVENTURA URBANA What is it?

Avventura Urbana is a group of experts from various different disciplines: architects, town planners, scientists, politicians, communicators, facilitators, web designers and social workers. Despite their specialisation in different sectors, the approach is based on teamwork, proven to be the right way to go about planning in complex and problematic situations.

The Avventua Urbana team has been working together for more than ten years to promote shared planning, by exploring new routes, often strewn with obstacles, for dealing with urban public policies in an innovative way.

Avventura Urbana is one of the organisations that founded Retepartecipazione. Formed in January 2003, this network is one of the entities in Italy that deals with shared planning - or to be more precise ‘inclusive decision-making processes’ -, using other people’s experiences to create public policies.

What does it do?

Its goal is to increasingly pay more attention to dealing with problems in a ‘polyphonic’ or multi-lateral way. Knowledge and planning go side by side, and those people affected by a transformation, whoever they may be, are allowed to express their opinion, as it is considered a precious contribution to boosting the number of possibilities and looking for a good solution. There are many possible products: integrated urban regeneration projects, community support programmes, conflict negotiation, environmental communication and sustainability, feasibility studies, social inclusion strategies, housing and workplaces for the community, public areas for the citizens.

How does it work?

Through active listening, project simulations, communication, creative conflict management: the tools are many, and need to be used with caution. We work with the inhabitants, technicians, shopkeepers, service providers, politicians, workers, entrepreneurs, children, immigrants, young people, women, environmentalists, committees, associations, social enterprises and more. Whatever their interests, they can get involved thanks to effective interaction opportunities. Not meetings, when the various parties tend to close ranks against each other. But structured opportunities. Where access is guaranteed, the language is comprehensible, and the impact of the encounter moderate. Where everyone is able to understand and express their opinion, even on the most complex technical problems, thanks to materials and means that are easy to use. So together we can build a shared result.
